Our Bodies Built the World: Women, Value, and the Making of the British Slave Compensation Programme
Klarke Stricklen is a DPhil student in the History Faculty at the University of Oxford. Her research examines 19th century slavery and abolition in the British Caribbean, with a particular emphasis on public discourse and political debates that culminated in the creation of the British Slave Compensation Programme.
Through her research, Klarke aims to deepen understandings related to compensation in the 19th century and to contribute meaningfully to public conversations on the legacies of slavery, public memory, and reparative justice.
Klarke is funded by the Rhodes Trust and is a student at St. John’s College.
