George Garnett appointed Literary Director of the Selden Society.

Professor George Garnett has just been appointed Literary Director of the Selden Society.

The Society was founded in 1887 by the great legal historian F.W. Maitland to encourage the study of the history of English common law. It publishes on an annual basis editions of hitherto unprinted legal records, ranging in date from the eleventh century to the nineteenth; and an occasional supplementary series of scholarly handbooks, editions of short treatises of legal interest, works on the history of the legal profession, etc. Its annual lecture, also published, is the most prestigious in the history of the common law. Its members hail from all over the English-speaking world.
