My project explores concepts of personhood and equality surrounding the 1857 U.S. Supreme Court Dred Scott decision (primarily Chief Justice Roger Taney's opinion) and Frederick Douglass's critique thereof, particularly interested in the question of how Taney's and Douglass's competing visions of America treat "the other".
