The Faculty of History is excited to announce the creation of a new award for Early Career/Fixed-Term Researchers. The Regius Prize, named in honour of Regius Professor Emerita Lyndal Roper, aims to highlight the strength and breadth of research undertaken by researchers early in their career or in non-permanent posts. Professor Roper was a tireless supporter of Early Career Researchers during her time as Regius and the Faculty is pleased to demonstrate its continuing support for their work through the establishment of the Regius Prize.
The prize will be awarded for a piece of historical research published in the last 12 months (or forthcoming in 2026) of between 8,000-10,000 words. The work must be identifiably historical in its subject-matter; and can be a piece of individual work or can be a contribution to a wider collaborative work, as long as the contribution of the individual applicant is specified. The panel of judges will be led by Professor Roper and contains Faculty colleagues covering different periods and regions as well as the Faculty’s current ECR/FTR Champion, Professor Sarah Knott. The winner of the prize will be announced in the University Gazette, as well as on the Faculty’s website, and will receive £300.
The prize is open to all Early Career Researchers and Fixed-Term Researchers currently employed within the collegiate university. Applicants must hold a doctorate and have a fixed-term contract of employment with either the University of Oxford or one of its colleges or private halls in order to apply. Please submit your piece of written research along with your name, date of doctoral award and contact details to: comms@history.ox.ac.uk
The deadline for applications is Friday 13 March (Week 8)
