Associate Professorship (or Professorship) and Tutorial Fellowship in Modern Middle Eastern History 1830-1970

Trinity College and the Faculty of History at the University of Oxford are seeking to appoint an outstanding historian with teaching and research interests in the modern history of the Middle East and North Africa (c.1830 to c.1970) as a Tutorial Fellow and Associate Professor of History. This post is available from 1st October 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. 

In this post, you will engage in advanced, internationally-competitive research in the field of modern Middle Eastern History, broadly defined. You will inspire and enthuse undergraduate and graduate students through research-led teaching in the history of the Middle East and North Africa between c. 1830 and c. 1970, as well as broader topics in European and World History. You will play a full and active role in the academic and administrative life of both the College and Faculty.

The combined University and College salary will be on a scale from £56,535 - £75,915 p.a. plus additional benefits as detailed in the further particulars, including a Housing Allowance of £18,500 p.a. An additional allowance of £3,199 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.
