Many historians have learned to pay attention to material and visual sources. This shift in practice has brought historians into closer contact with museum collections and the professionals who manage, preserve, collect, and display them. These interactions can be enriching and productive—as the AHRC’s Collaborative Doctoral Partnership programme shows. But they can also obscure the distinctions between historical and collections-based careers. Bringing together a range of museum professionals, this panel discussion aims to clarify those differences, helping you to identify effective strategies for pursuing your chosen professional goals. Questions welcome!
