Changing Character of Warfare (CCW)

The Oxford Changing Character of War Programme is devoted to the interdisciplinary study of war and armed conflict. CCW is now based in Pembroke College 

From 2004 to 2009 the Oxford Changing Character of War Programme was generously funded by a £1.1 million Leverhulme Trust Research Programme grant, and from 2009 to 2013 by a John Fell Fund grant.  CCW was based in the History Faculty during this period before moving to Pembroke College.

Founding programme members include: Professor Sir Hew Strachan (History), Professor Adam Roberts (International Relations), Professor Henry Shue (Political Philosophy), Dr David Gill (Law), Dr David Rodin (Philosophy).

Changing Character of Warfare

The Oxford Changing Character of War programme was devoted to the interdisciplinary study of war and armed conflict. The programme conducted research on a wide range of issues pertaining to the history of war in the modern period, and sought to be ‘policy-relevant’ to more recent conflicts through elucidation, explication, and education.

The CCW Programme was generously funded by a £1.1 million Leverhulme Trust Research Programme grant from 2004 to 2009 and a John Fell Fund grant from 2009 to 2013.  CCW was based in the History Faculty during this period before moving to Pembroke College.
