The discovery of an envelope of photographs taken at the British Pharmacological Society meeting in 1937 labelled ‘Joint meeting with the German Pharmacological Society’ in the Pharmacology Department in Oxford provided the impetus to find out more. Together with the Chair of the German Pharmacological Society, this special event aims to look more closely at the shared histories of both societies pre-war and the subsequent disruption to academic careers.
Talks will share new material looking at exile, the cost to academia and some surprising alliances.
Tickets include lunch, tea/coffee and drinks afterwards.
On the day a ‘Blue plaque’ will be unveiled along with an exhibition of framed art prints of photographs of scientists in the 1930s.
