Welcome to History@Oxford

Welcome to the Oxford University History Faculty’s blog. The blog is written by the History Faculty’s current and former students. We hope their experiences gives you an insight into what it’s really like to study history at Oxford.

Our students will tell you about diverse aspects of undergraduate life, in their own words and from their own experiences. The blog is the opposite of an ‘official’ source of information and each person is encouraged to write about their experiences honestly – they will tell you what they have found difficult, what they wish they had known when they were potential applicants, as well as what they love about studying history at Oxford. If after reading a post, you’re interested in finding out more, it is important to read the detailed and up-to-date information on the websites of the History Faculty, Oxford University, and the colleges. Or, if you’d like to meet our current students (and tutors) face-to-face, so that you can ask your own questions about any aspect of undergraduate life, we would love to see you at an open day.

We hope to update the blog every two weeks, so do check back regularly. The posts will fall broadly into four main areas. Some undergraduates will share their experiences of the application process and their tips for preparing to study at Oxford. Others will write about what it’s like to study history and what they get out of their tutorials, classes, or essays. In some of the posts students will simply write about an aspect of their everyday life as an Oxford student. We are also very grateful to some former students who have agreed to tell us about what they have gone on to do after graduation and how their undergraduate studies have shaped their lives after Oxford. If you would like to follow in their footsteps, do check out the information about applying on the History Faculty website.
