History Hit have gone behind the scenes to discover some of the Ashmolean Museum’s most precious and surprising objects, in depth and up close.
Six new documentary films, presented by Dan Snow and Suzannah Lipscomb (both alumni of the Faculty of History), alongside Ashmolean curators, will be released between summer 2025 and spring 2026.
Ashmolean Members and History Hit subscribers will see them first, at least three months before they're released on YouTube to watch for free.
The first film, Nero's Golden House – is now available to watch for Ashmolean Members and History Hit subscribers.
The six documentaries will cast a light on the Ashmolean's varied collection, including protective figurines crafted in the ancient Middle East, strange and exquisite 18th-century Memento Mori reminding us of the inevitability of death, Egyptian figures crafted before the first pharaohs, and one of the greatest Anglo Saxon treasures of them all, the Alfred Jewel.
