History Outreach

I wanted to use the opportunity of this newsletter to introduce myself as the new subject specific Outreach Officer for the Faculty of History.

I joined the Faculty in March 2020 in this new post, which was created thanks to the generosity of alumni and supporters. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been developing and delivering History outreach activities, resources and events ever since. I  studied History and Archaeology at the University of Reading and spent 12 years working in Museums and Heritage before joining the faculty.

My most recent employment was delivering a programme of temporary art exhibitions for the National Trust. I have highlighted my employment journey in particular here because I feel that career opportunities and progression post-graduation is something that the History Faculty has not focused on from an outreach perspective before.  It has been highlighted many times by the undergraduate ambassadors who I am working with, that for students from low income and ethnically diverse backgrounds in particular, future career opportunities are a very important influencing factor when it comes to choosing a degree course.

I would be really interested to hear about your employment journey post-graduation!

I am aiming to produce a variety of career resources for our website to help prospective students understand how a history degree from Oxford equips you with skills suited to countless employment opportunities.

If this is something you think you would be interesting in taking part in, please do get in touch with me (anna.connolly@history.ox.ac.uk) and we can discuss how you can contribute towards our campaign this year.

There are a number of ways in which you could contribute:

Without your help I will not be able to deliver this important resource and help prospective students understand why history is an excellent degree choice.

Many thanks in advance for your engagement with this initiative.
