British Academy Global Professorships: Expressions of Interest Invited

The Faculty is currently inviting Expressions of Interest for the University’s internal competition for applications to the British Academy’s Global Professorships scheme. The University is limited in the number of applications it can submit to this scheme, so a joint panel will be reviewing Expressions of Interest from across the Humanities and Social Sciences.

BA Global Professorships

This programme provides mid-career to senior scholars – active in any discipline within the social sciences and the humanities and based in any country overseas – with the opportunity to work in the UK for four years. The Global Professorships are awards for individuals in an institutional setting. Applications must be for new, coherent and cutting-edge projects. The Global Professorships are expected to add significant value to the UK host institutions and vice versa, and thus the projects must be significant and mutually beneficial, leading to novel and innovative collaborations. Posts are research-focussed but are not research only, and can also include some teaching, etc. to achieve strategic benefit.

Awards are expected to run for four years each from a starting date to be agreed with the British Academy. The starting date must fall between 1 March 2024 and 30 September 2024. The Academy will provide up to £900,000 per award. Applicants must have a permanent or ongoing post and be able to take up an unpaid leave of absence, or a long-term secondment to take up the award. This scheme funds a fixed-term four-year post, and pays a salary following Oxford’s standard salary scale, and EDI policies. Please see the ‘Value of Funding and Eligible Costs’ section of the scheme guidance here for full details of funding that may be sought.

Please see the British Academy’s website, and the scheme guidance, for full details of the scheme. and eligibility requirements.
