Research Topic
Southeast England and Southwest Germany, c. 550-680 AD
My research focuses on southeast England and southwest Germany in the sixth and seventh centuries.
I will take an interdisciplinary approach, where I will use archaeological sources and methodology to supplement and challenge scholarship based predominantly on written evidence. My thesis will rely on three primary source-types: furnished burials, runic inscriptions, and legal codes. Through this evidence, I aim to combine material, linguistic, and legal approaches to address multiple aspects of society and culture in early medieval England and Germany.
