Our Bodies Built the World: Centering Enslaved Women in the Story of Compensated Emancipation and Reparations
I am interested in contemporary reparations for descendants of enslaved Africans across the Caribbean and the Americas. Our Bodies Built the World is a microhistory of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833, focusing specifically on the stipulation of compensation for slave owners and centering enslaved women within this narrative. This dissertation is a diasporic exploration and seeks to contribute meaningfully to conversations on silence, memory, and reparations grounded in transnational solidarity.
