Dr Eleanor Leah Williams

I’m a Junior Research Fellow in the Northern Ireland Peace Process at Pembroke College. During my time at Pembroke, I’ll be looking at the secret role of civil servants during the peace process in Northern Ireland. Furthermore, I am also part of the Quill Project ‘Writing Peace: Penning the Good Friday Agreement’ team at Pembroke College which brings together archives, private papers, and oral histories from across the political spectrum to create a rounded view of the context and detail of the peace process.

Prior to joining Pembroke, I completed my PhD at Queen’s University of Belfast, which looked at the ethically controversial state intelligence activities conducted during the conflicts in Northern Ireland and Colombia. This project was funded by the Department for the Economy. I studied Politics and International Relations at undergraduate and postgraduate level at Cardiff University.

Research Interests

My current project considers the secret role civil servants played during the Northern Irish peace process. My previous research focused on state intelligence in the contexts of the conflicts in Northern Ireland and Colombia.

I am a committee member of the ECPR Standing Group for Political Violence and run the North American Society for Intelligence History [NASIH] PhD Writing Group.
