Foundation Certificate in Modern History

Introduction

The Foundation Certificate in Modern History offers an exciting opportunity for part-time study at degree level. The two-year course is equivalent to the first year of a full-time degree in modern history and offers an alternative means of entry to full-time higher education. The Certificate is available at the University of Oxford's Department for Continuing Education at Rewley House in central Oxford.

Launched in September 1997, the Foundation Certificate in Modern History represents a further important development in the University of Oxford's commitment to expanding educational opportunities. Students who successfully complete the course are eligible to apply for entry to the second year of the University's full-time undergraduate honours degree in Modern History.

A number of the students who have successfully completed the Foundation Certificate have obtained full-time places at Oxford or other universities.

Students on the Department's Foundation Certificate courses come from many walks of life. Whether it is to progress to a full degree, to change direction through study, or to satisfy a personal ambition, we welcome applications from all students wishing to pursue their interest in history in a more structured and disciplined manner.
