Libraries, IT and Language Resources

Library provision is excellent. Oxford historians are fortunate in having three sources of books. College libraries usually stock at least the more commonly used books for the outline courses of the first and second years, and often their collections are very rich indeed. The Faculty Library is extremely well stocked, and in it you will find lending copies of most of the books that you need. For more specialist works, you are free to make use of the Bodleian, with its six million volumes one of the major research libraries of the world. It is also possible to make use of other of the more specialist libraries around the University.

Most Colleges have computer rooms for undergraduate use, and most student accommodation is ethernetted, allowing students access to the internet and various online resources. The University Computing Centre offers a variety of courses introducing undergraduates in the humanities to the use of the new technologies. The Faculty website and WebLearn, an online resource centre for Oxford students, offers access to course descriptions, bibliographies, past exam papers, and a host of useful links.

If you wish to deepen your existing knowledge of a language or if you wish to acquire a new one, you may do so through the courses offered by the University Language Centre.
