The History Faculty Library is primarily an undergraduate lending library for the use of students taking the Honour School of Modern History and the associated joint schools within the University of Oxford. Other people who are currently studying for qualifications of, or employed by, the University, as well as Visiting Fellows of Colleges, may also register as users on proof of identity and status.
Junior-year overseas program members and visitors to Oxford with no current connection with the University are not eligible to use the Library.
Further details on admissions procedures may be obtained from the Library staff. Readers are requested to bring their university card with them, as this will be required to register as a reader of the Library. Access to and usage of the History Faculty Library are governed by the general Regulations Relating to the Use of the Facilities of the Oxford University Library Services, to which current and prospective readers are referred.
Various borrowing allowances apply to different categories of readers, based partly on the need to ensure that the items in heaviest demand circulate sufficiently among readers. The following details provide some guidance on borrowing allowances in operation for the majority of users of the History Faculty Library. All new readers are informed of their borrowing rights on registering to use the Library.
