Dr Jonathan Healey, a young Oxford historian and Fellow of St Catherine’s College, has recently been successful in the prestigious AHRC/BBC scheme New Generation Thinkers.  As part of the scheme, sixty early-career academics were selected to develop their programme-making ideas with BBC producers, from which ten – including Jonathan – were selected as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Thinkers.

Jonathan works on English social and economic history from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries, focusing in particular on the long-term development of the English economy and state, on rural history, and on the history popular politics. He and the other winners will ‘receive top-level mentoring and advice on how to develop their ideas into viable programme propositions as well as the chance to shadow presenters and producers’, will be contributing regularly to Radio 3’s broadcasting schedule, in particular to their flagship ideas programme Night Waves.
