The Faculty is pleased to report three new appointments for Michaelmas 2012:

  • Paul Betts, as Professor of Modern European History, St Antony's College. Paul Betts is currently Professor of Modern European History at Sussex University. His most recent book, Within Walls: Private Life in the German Democratic Republic, was published by Oxford University Press in 2010, and received the Fraenkel Prize for Contemporary History from the Wiener Library. He is currently researching a book on changing ideas of civilization in twentieth-century Europe.
  • Jonathan Parkin, as CUF in Early Modern History at St Hugh's College. Dr Parkin is currently Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics at York University. His work focuses on the interaction between ideas and practical politics in the Early Enlightenment period.
  • Giora Sternberg, as CUF in Early Modern History at Hertford College. Dr Sternberg is currently Junior Fellow at the Society of Fellows, Harvard University. His work focuses on early modern Europe, particulary France, his current research exploring the ways in which French elites signalled and manipulated social difference.
