  • The Project was established in 2009

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a second major grant in support of Cultures of Knowledge: An Intellectual Geography of the Seventeenth-Century Republic of Letters, an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Humanities Division and the Bodleian Libraries directed by intellectual historian Professor Howard Hotson and administered within the Faculty of History by Dr James Brown. The award of $758,000 will support the project until the end of 2014, during which period the Project's union catalogue of seventeenth-century learned correspondence, Early Modern Letters Online, will be further refined technically and populated with additional quantities of metadata, and its historiographical implications explored in a series of affiliated events and scholarly pilot projects. Further details are available on the Project’s blog.
