Access Guide to the History Faculty Building

The History Faculty building is situated in the Old Boys' High School on George Street.  Advance notification of any access need may be communicated to Reception on (6)15000.

From the front gate which is located in George Street, there are seven steps to reach the building level. Wheelchair access can be gained via New Inn Hall Street. There is a flat gravelled surface area and a stone faced ramp which leads to the main entrance at the rear of the building. The doors are swipe card operated, using a University Card; or via the telephone pad and Reception. There are two doors, one of which opens wide enoughto accommodate a normal hand operated wheelchair.  The second leaf of the door may be opened by Reception to give wider access for larger wheeled vehicles. Internal ramps are provided to gain access to the seminar rooms and administration areas on the ground floor.  The second floor does not have wheelchair access.

There are height adjustable tables in the Computer Resource Room and Lecture Theatre. The seminar rooms are easily managed to give extra access if needed.  The Faculty Common Room has a ramp to the main floor area and basic computer facilities. The Lecture Theatre has a static hearing loop and there is a movable system for use in the seminar rooms. Please contact Reception if the hearing loop is required.

There is a disabled toilet with wide access from the main seminar corridor.

In the event of an emergency exit from the building, wheelchairs may exit by either the main rear doors or the Common Room emergency exit and ramp to the rear garden. An evac chair is maintained in the front hall in the event of emergency and several members of staff are trained in its use.
